Taxco and Cuernavaca Day Tour
Explore Taxco Guerrero and Cuernavaca Morelos with us! You will experience a beautiful day tour filled with interesting anecdotes, historical data, colonial architecture, colorful crafts and fine jewelry.
Our journey starts in Mexico City; we will go on a two hour and a half road-trip. You’ll see how the landscape changes little by little as we cross the State of Morelos to finally arrive at Taxco Guerrero, a beautiful town that still keeps it colonial unique charm.
Walking up and down the steep cobbled streets of Taxco Guerrero you’ll find myriads of white houses with red tile roof; you’ll literally feel that you are on a journey in time to the days of the silver mining boom this city experienced in colonial times. The quality of Taxco silver continues to this day and you will discover why.
One of the main attractions in Taxco Guerrero is the Temple of Santa Prisca, which features a beautiful New Spanish Baroque architectural style and was built in the eighteenth century. Between 1758 and 1806 the Temple of Santa Prisca in Taxco Guerrero was the tallest building in Mexico. After seeing this true architectural gem you can go through the shops and workshops of silver in Taxco to see how the skilled hands of artisans and jewelers create from simple rings to complex necklaces or sculptures with precious stones and silver.
Later, in Cuernavaca Morelos, we will see historic buildings like the Palacio de Cortes (the Palace of Cortez). The Spanish conquistador himself had this palace built over a pre-Columbian temple to be his residence right after the Conquest of Mexico.
Other must-see places in Cuernavaca include the cathedral, which is one of the first Catholic churches built in Mexico, and the old beautiful mansion known as Jardin Borda (Borda Garden). Jardin Borda was built in the eighteenth century by orders of wealthy miner Jose de la Borda (the same person who had Temple of Santa Prisca built in Taxco, too). For its great beauty, in the years of the Second Empire in Mexico (1863-1867), this mansion would be chosen by Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Carlota as their summer house.
On our tour in Cuernavaca Morelos you will have the chance of admiring (and purchasing) beautiful handicrafts such as pottery pieces or beautifully decorated baskets and bags made of dry palm leaves. Products made from wax produced by bees are also displayed almost in every market in Cuernavaca Morelos.
