Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl Volcanoes Tour in Mexico City
Join us on an exciting expedition to the Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes! Our adventure will start early in the morning, even before 7:00 am, when we pick you up to take you to Tlalmanalco, a mere two-hour drive from downtown Mexico City. In Tlalmanalco you will have several options to choose from to have a tasty breakfast at the skirts of the Izta volcano, from quesadillas and tamales to birria (a delicious steaming stew made with beef, goat or sheep).
Once we have finished breakfast and with our energy to the top, we'll continue our trip by car to Paso de Cortes, which is a mountain pass that connects Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes at an altitude of 11,150 ft. The name of this mountain pass comes from the time when Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortez marched with his men over this place to confront emperor Moctezuma in Tenochtitlan (what is now Mexico City) in 1519.
That's where we will start ascending Iztaccihuatl (Nahuatl for "white woman") by foot. As you will witness, the beauty of the place is simply breath-taking. We will go up this dormant volcanic mountain as high as you want, though our goal is to reach an altitude of 15,750 ft. near the top of Iztaccihuatl, which is always covered in snow.
You will love the Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes
tour! And wait until you listen to the beautiful pre-Columbian legend
that tells the story of a princess and a warrior during the tour. It is
said that their love gave birth to the two impressive volcanoes you're
about to climb on your next visit to Mexico City.
